On July 13th in Beijing, Andea de Guttry, professor of international law and director of DIRPOLIS Institute at Sant’Anna School for Advanced Studies will deliver his keynote address upon invitation of Beijing Municipal Public Defender Office. The keynote address will focus on the Italian model of conflict resolution for social issues related to labor contracts. Labor and social issues are big challenges to face currently as much in Italy and Europe as in China, where social conflicts arising from hazardous working conditions increased largely over the last few years.

The Lectio Magistralis event represents an essential part of Sant’Anna School - Beijing Municipal Public Defender Office cooperation agreement renewed in 2015: European and East Asia Universities together with the Beijing Municipal Public Defender Office representatives recently held a meeting at Sant’Anna School in Pisa on the approach adopted by different countries in the prevention and resolution of social conflicts.

Professor Andrea de Guttry outlined that: “The Chinese government demonstrated increasing attention and genuine interest in Italian and European conflict management strategies, so to identify new approach to social conflicts resolution and methods which might be used in China”. Social conflicts related to labor market changed its characters also because of recent labor law reform in China and Europe; according to professor de Guttry, “sharing experiences and information on the new strategies implemented to prevent and deal with conflicts it is very useful both to Chinese and European authorities, whilst we are very aware of the differences between the two countries’ economies and social systems”.
